Football Superstars hosted a virtual World Cup of their massive multi-player online game recently, and while the England team failed to beat Germany in the 2010 South Africa World Cup, they manged to go all the way in the virtual world.
Football Superstars puts on a massively multi-player online football Wold Cup; this year’s victors were the England football team, who in the real world barely managed to get out of the group stages and were stopped by Germany 4-1 - in the virtual world, they took home the cup. The virtual England team bested classic rivals the Germans in the group stages, faring much better in the virtual world they managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw. The German team then continued only to lose 2-1 to the Ukraine, beating them amazingly out of the fantasy football world cup in the group stages, something that would be hard to believe in the real world. Easily overcoming the Lithuania team in the Quarter Finals, coming away with a substantial 9-1 win, the England team was on a roll and in high spirits as they went on to the Semi Final against Portugal, a team they certainly would enjoy beating. The game was won and lost in the midfield, with both teams grappling for control; when all was said and done the England squad came out on top managing to score 2 more goals than the Portuguese team, the end result was 4-2 seeing England go through to the final and Portugal leaving the tournament in despair. The final would be with Russia and England - both teams craved the win, but only one team could possess it. The game went off well for the English as they received an early lead, scoring in just about a minute. The Russian team fast retaliated, knowing they needed to equalize quickly to be within a chance, and so they did. Scoring a goal from an interception after a bad clearance by the England keeper, the Russians pulled even; however, it was short-lived, as a virtually identical goal was scored by the England team at the other end. While Russia did their best to get back in the game and had some promising counter attacks, the end result went England’s way as they managed to get a number of goals. The Russian team displayed a lot of gumption, but were just out matched and seemed unable to muster the energy needed to turn the game around. Football Superstars PMC World Cup made England become the World Champions for the first time when the final whistle blew. CyberSports Community Manager Andrew Ruddick discussed the event, claiming it had been a great success. It was the biggest ever hosted, and thanks to great organization and the dedicated teams, there were some amazing close games and exciting results. He continued to thank everybody who was part of it, and congratulate England for their championship and playing well throughout the tournament.
