How To Make A Rubber Band Gun

Posted in Top Entertainment on April 26th, 2008

Back in the days when kids made a lot of their toys, some
devious little mind came up with a way to fire rubber bands off
more than their own thumbs. Thus was born the rubber band gun.
Today, they’re enjoying such a resurgence of popularity, that
you can even buy guns carved from wood, that replicate actual
weapons such as repeating rifles, pistols and more.

But for a simply weapon to give your friends a snapping good
time, try this. Gather up a piece of wood, such as a short
section of 1×2″ lumber, a wooden clothespin, some Crazy Glue, a
nail and a hammer.

You’re going to want to glue the clothespin at the rear of the
1″ side, which should be on top. But first, take a nail no more
than 2″ long, and 1/8″ thick, and cut the flat head off, and
file it down. Mark on the piece of wood, where the end of the
clothespin will be, and drive the nail into the wood, sharp end
down, about 1/3″ from where the mark is. Leave about 3/4″ of the
nail sticking up.

Now drill a hole through the end of the clothespin, with a bit
that is slightly larger than the width of the nail. Make sure
you drill through both sides of the pin. Apply glue to one
narrow side of the clothespin, from the open end, down to the
drilled hole. Don’t get glue in the hole. Now place the
clothespin on the piece of 1×2″, making sure it’s got the nail
fitted through the hole. You might want to try the fit, before
applying the glue.

Cut a notch in the end of your wood, just below the top, so you
can hook one end of the rubber band there. Now pull it back, and
hook the other end over the protruding nail. To fire, just open
the clothespin. There should be enough motion to allow the upper
part of the pin, to push the rubber band off.

For more zing to your gun, cut a second shorter piece of wood
and glue it underneath at a 90-degree angle, to approximate the
shape of a pistol. Insert your nail and glue your clothespin to
the back of the “grip”. This will make for a longer stretch to
the band, and more snap when you fire.

Ultra Violet Pond Filter

Posted in Gardening + More on April 26th, 2008

Having an ultra violet pond filter will give you a much better chance at keeping your pond water clear. When used in conjunction with your regular pond filter, it’s more than likely that you will have nice clear pond water.

The way it works is this. As water in your pond passes through the ultra violet pond filter, the UV light inside of the tube kills the algae. As the algae dies, it begins to clump together. Now your regular pond filter goes into action and traps these dead algae.

Without one of these ultra violet pond filters it will be difficult to keep your water clear, and on sunny warm days you will get algae blooms like you wouldn’t believe, which in turn will make your water pea soup green.

You can get a couple different kinds. They make a submersible kind and an external one. Personally, I think it’s better to have a submersible UV light, just for the simple reason that they’re out of sight. They are durable and should last you for years, although you may have to replace the light bulb after so many hours of use. In a nutshell, you really don’t want to be without an ultra violet pond filter.

Bad Credit Car Loans

Posted in Great Loans Tips on April 26th, 2008

Having bad credit does not mean you cannot buy a car. There are many car loan companies offering bad credit car loans. You have to search online for the right lender, whose rates and terms are reasonable for you.

It is always better to apply for a bad credit car loan with a co-signer, because if you don’t have good credit, you may as well look for someone who does. Lenders will look at the record of the co-signer. If you are a couple, you may as well find your credit scores online, and use the partner with the better credit score to apply for the car loan. Before applying for your bad credit car loan, update your credit score by reviewing your free copy online and making sure that all information in it has been upgraded. Lenders like to see some cash assets in your bank account, which may be in the form of a savings account, money market, or CD. Moreover, the less debt you have, the better you look to the lenders.

Never lie to the lenders. Getting a car loan after bankruptcy is a great way of building back your credit history. So give your honest information to get the most accurate loan estimate, through which your bad credit car loan’s interest rate is determined. Explain what led to your bankruptcy situation, and the steps taken to resolve your credit position. Many lenders are willing to listen to you while considering your application for a bad credit car loan. Once your loan is approved, keep your eyes open for future refinancing. This can be achieved by making regular payments so that in a year’s time you qualify for a lower interest rate. In this way, you are able to improve your credit score, to thereby qualify for lower interest rates on loans.

Dallas Mortgage Refinance

Posted in Real Estate Center on April 25th, 2008

Refinanced mortgages have a few distinctive rules when it comes to closing. For one, there is a mandatory rescission clause for primary residence mortgages that permits you to annul your loan. You can decide to close at anytime, which is advantageous if you think rates will go down in the near future.

If the property is your primary residence you have three days after closing to cancel your loan with a rescission clause. Consider it a “re-evaluation” period. If you have cold feet, you can annul the loan and recoup almost all fees.

If you annul your mortgage, you will barely have a short term hit on your credit score from the lender’s background check. However, it will have an effect if you make a decision to apply for a new loan in the near future.

You have the option to keep you refinanced mortgage open indefinitely. You don’t have to close your refinanced mortgage within 30 days. On the other hand, you have to consider your alternatives cautiously. As you are waiting for rates to drop, you may observe them increase while paying your existing high mortgage rate.

Mortgage rates vary on an approximately hourly rate, but they do follow a trend. You can learn about general mortgage rates in finance section of your newspaper or hear about it on radio and television. Whether the Federal Reserve Board increases or lower rates ultimately impacts mortgage rates, but other factors also influence mortgage rates, making it complicated to foretell precise changes.

You also have to bear in mind that each month you put off locking in rates, you are losing a possibility to save money. While a percent can save you a substantial sum of money, a quarter percent isn’t worth it. Waiting for lower rates is a risk, but it is a risk that you have a right to.

Selling Information on eBay: What the Experts Don’t Want You to Know

Posted in My Auctions on April 25th, 2008

Hardly a day goes by that I don’t get an email promising me a fast track to riches if I only buy someone’s handy-dandy ebook about selling information on eBay.

Can you really make money this way?

Sure you can. All you have to do is have information that’s of such value that people are willing to pay you $10, $20 or even $25 for it.

How do you get such information?

If you’re an expert in something, you can write what’s known as an ebook (electronic book that can be downloaded). The experts will tell you this is easy, especially if it’s an “how to” book. Oh, wait. You have to be sure that there’s a market for that subject. For example, you might be the world’s number one authority on training rabbits to race, but how many people care enough to shell out $15 or $18 to learn how to race rabbits?

You don’t have to be a great writer to do one of these ebooks if you truly are an expert on the subject. But you do have to be a pretty good copywriter. This is because no matter how valuable your book is, you must first write ad copy so powerful, buyers will be frothing at the mouth to buy it.

After you write your book, you will probably need a software program that can create a good-looking book cover. You will also need Adobe Acrobat to “distill” your pride and joy into a ebook that buyers can easily download. And, oh yes, you will need to create a Pay Pal account so that all those anxious buyers can give you their money.

What if you’re not an expert in something?

If you are not an expert on some subject, you can buy information for resale. That’s right, there is a whole bunch of folks out there who would be just tickled pink to sell you resale rights to their ebooks. The trick is knowing if the information can be sold a a profit to a specific market niche.

For example, you might find you can purchase resale rights to a book on family finances at a reasonable price. This sounds good because, gosh, there are a lot of families out there and they all have finances. But … how many books are already available on this subject and what do they sell for? With a little research, you might find there are dozens and dozens of books on this subject. However, with a little more research, you might find a better niche, say, finances for single Moms. Of course, you then have to find an ebook on the subject you can buy and resell.

You also have to determine whether or not the market has already been saturated. In other words, has the author already sold so many copies of that book on finances for single Moms that there just aren’t a lot of people left who would buy it. The best way to check this out is to do a search on eBay to see how many such books are being offered for sale and what they’re selling for.

You can make money selling information on eBay but I submit that it’s not as easy as some of those experts would have you believe.

Web Copy - What You Should Know First

Posted in Web Tips + More on April 24th, 2008

Just what is web copy? Some people think that web copy is anything that is written on a web page. But that is “content” and it is decidedly different than web copy. Simply stated, web copy is the copy that is used to sell anything on a web page. So now you say, but that’s “sales copy.” And you would be partly correct, but traditional direct mail copy and web copy are two different animals.

You see, people are used to a certain way of expression on the web, and you must be able to tap into that to make your web copy effective. Traditional direct mail copywriting is filled with hyperbole and exaggerations, and people are used to seeing that in direct mail. However, on the ‘Net, it’s an entirely different ball game. People are used to a more relaxed style on the Internet and most won’t tolerate anything else.

With that said, what should you do if you’re writing copy for the web? Write in a friendly, engaging style. Use the soft-sell approach with web copy. Make your copy more informational. Maria Veloso recommends writing in an editorial style. And I agree. I’ve been using the Internet since 1993, when it first became available for use by the general public. I’ve read thousands of web sites. I’ve been exposed to the traditional direct mail copywriting on the Internet and I’ve read it all. I have to side with Maria on this because of my vast experience on the Web.

People are more relaxed on the Internet. And they are more open to writing that is more relaxed, has a personal feel, and doesn’t scream of selling this or that. People don’t want that type of message. So you have to write just like you are talking to the individual, but don’t make it sound salesy. Use testimonials that have more of an editorial feel to them. And make sure that what you write engages the reader. Give them information that they didn’t have before coming to your web site. That’s what they were looking for to begin with. Information!

And that’s what they want.

Since visitors to your web site can easily and quickly “click” away from your site, you have to give them the pertinent information up front. Take a lesson from journalists and use the “upside-down pyramid” style of writing. Do this so that your message is given quickly and concisely. When writing this way, your sales message gets read and the prospect can take action from there. Does this mean that all web copy should be short? No! Web copy still needs to be “as long as it needs to be to make the sale.” But you just said to make your sales message up front. Yes I did. But people still need to rationalize their decision to perform the task you are asking them to do. That is done in the remaining part of your copy. This is where you inject emotion and get the prospect to picture what their life will be like after completing your designated task.

So you still need to use direct mail techniques, but you have to use them in a more information giving way. Never let your prospect suspect that you are really trying to sell him/her on your idea/product/service. Simply put, write like you would if you were writing a review of a book. But write it so that your prospect respects the information you have imparted and then clicks on your link to buy the book.

Cosmetic Dentists

Posted in Uncategorized on April 24th, 2008

Beauty might be only skin-deep. However, it is given a lot of value in certain fields such as modeling, and acting. Since everyone is not born with the same level of perfection, enhancing the best features is one way to look stunning. One such feature in the body that can be enhanced to perfection is the smile. Perfect teeth and jaw line, can bring out an attractive smile in a person. Cosmetic dentistry is a field wherein the dentists deal with a variety of procedures to enhance an individual’s smile.
Cosmetic dentists usually are a couple of steps ahead of regular dentists. Cosmetic dentists must be familiar with dental implants, dentures, dental crowns, and dental bridges like regular dentists, however, unlike regular dentists, they also deal with porcelain veneers, teeth straightening, restorative dentistry, bonding techniques, teeth whitening, teeth bleaching both surgically and cosmetically. Patients can choose the kind of cosmetic treatment that interests them and consult the dentist.
Cosmetic dentists who deal with dentures and dental implants provide a permanent solution for those missing a few teeth. The price depends upon the materials used to make the implants, the laboratory used for the making of the implants, and the experience of the dentist. Most of the time, cosmetic dentists might charge a bit more than the regular dentists for these tasks. However, cosmetic dentists would be able to provide a better solution to this kind of problem in cases of multiple dental implants.
Cosmetic dentists provide some excellent treatments for straightening crooked, uneven or askew teeth. Straightening the teeth in an adult is usually done with Invisalign, an orthodontic method of treatment. This involves the patient’s teeth being fit individually with brackets that are made of transparent material, unlike the traditional metal ones. A few months of wearing different sets of aligners would correct the teeth gradually providing a perfect position. However, a regular visit to the orthodontist is recommended while using these aligners to ensure perfect alignment. The other method for this is to use the porcelain veneers that are a much simpler method to straighten teeth and provide a perfect smile.
Cosmetic dentists get most patients for teeth whitening. This is because perfect white teeth help produce a perfect smile. Tooth whitening is a process where the dentist bleaches the patient’s teeth till the natural color comes through. This can be done with cosmetic products such as ‘BriteSmile’ and others that are available in the market or through surgery. Surgery is recommended only for those with strong and healthy gums and teeth and the procedure involves the bleaching agent being applied on the teeth and the ultraviolet radiation being passed through to each tooth individually.
Cosmetic dentists are expensive and can be consulted for all kinds of problems related to one’s teeth and smile. Browsing online can produce a list of all the available cosmetic dentists in an area.

How to Build a Shed

Posted in Gardening + More on April 23rd, 2008

The easiest way to build a shed in the backyard is to make a trip to the local Lowe’s or other hardware shop to purchase a shed-building kit. Never choose one from a picture in a brochure or from the Internet. When viewing in person, you can check for important quality control details such as thickness of timber, overlap structure of panels, type of wood, whether it is pre-treated with a preservative and the quality of flooring. Thick timber is longer lasting. An overlap structure on wall panels is important to prevent water leakage. It is beneficial for the shed to have been pre-treated with preservative, but in your upkeep you will still want to treat it once a year. Flooring should be thick so that it does not give with the weight of tools and equipment you want to store. Do not skimp on size or quality, because in the long run, you will be happiest with a large, lasting building.

Before starting, make sure you have a level base on which to build the shed. Otherwise, the wall panels will not line up properly. Double check that you have all necessary building tools for the particular shed-building kit; you will not want to stop mid-project to purchase more tools. Find out if you need permission to erect a small building on your property. Detail an access route for getting large panels and other materials to the site for the shed.

To begin, make sure the land is dry. Excavate a place to put in a concrete floor. If you choose to make the shed above ground, then wood boards are acceptable. Follow instructions and proceed to screw all pieces together in the pre-made holes. Run a frame sealing mastic around windows to prevent weather damage. To insulate, either use glass fiber loft insulation or expanded polystyrene slabs covered with wallboards. If the shed needs electrical wiring, be sure to bury cables in the ground or run them high overhead. Wires should never drag along the ground, wall or fence. Call a professional electrician for assistance if you are not familiar with these procedures.

It is possible to build a shed without purchasing the kit. Keep in mind that you are essentially building a box. Begin with the same flooring process- either excavate for a concrete floor or use a wooden floor. A simple shed can take the shape of a lean-to with one large slanted wall nailed to three smaller side walls. If you feel confident in your building abilities, then a more complicated shed would be a four-sided rectangular shed with a pitched roof. To attach the roof, nail the slanted slabs of wood to the upright walls. To finish the project, apply a preservative treatment, and any insulation or electric wiring that is desired.
